Eremito is a hotel and contemporary hermitage nestled in the nature of the UNESCO Monte Peglia Biosphere Reserve in Umbria, Italy. A place designed to slow the rhythm of daily life and spend a few days away from noise and constant connectivity.
Three things. Total disconnection, no Wi-Fi and no signal. The nightly silent dinner with Gregorian chant. And a design built for solo travellers, since most of the 18 Celluzze are conceived and priced for one person. It is a place of subtraction rather than a spa: you come to stop, not to be entertained.
Eremito is not a monastery and is not an organised spiritual retreat.
It is a hotel and contemporary hermitage where guests can spend a few days immersed in nature, away from the pace of everyday life.
During the day a few simple moments are offered, such as readings in the chapel or gentle yoga, but participation is always optional.
Many guests choose Eremito simply to slow down, walk in nature or dedicate time to themselves.
Yes. Eremito is one of Italy’s original digital detox hotels: there is no Wi-Fi, no television and generally no mobile signal inside the hermitage. Phones can be used in a dedicated outdoor area. Most guests disconnect completely for the length of their stay.
Eremito is the contemporary hermitage: a hotel born in 2013 in Parrano, Umbria, as a contemporary and secular hermitage, where silence, the Celluzze, the shared table and the absence of Wi-Fi are the experience. It borrows from monastic life the structure of the day, the Celluzza and silence at the table, and offers it to people travelling alone without asking them to believe in anything. It was rebuilt on the foundations of a hermitage believed to date back to the fourteenth century. Today the tourism of silence has a name, hushpitality, and a holiday in silence is called a quietcation. Here they were practised before they had a name.
Yes. Hushpitality is the name the travel industry has recently given to the hospitality of silence, and a quietcation is a holiday spent in silence. Eremito has done this since 2013: dinner in silence every evening, no Wi-Fi or phone signal, Celluzze designed for people travelling alone, a single all inclusive rate. This is why it is cited as a reference for the trend by Ideal Magazine, Baboo Travel, Parade and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
No. The activities offered during the day are optional.

You can read, walk in the woods, rest, spend time in the communal spaces or in the relaxation area.

At certain moments of the day, such as during dinner, silence is observed by all guests.
Every evening at 19:30 dinner is shared in silence in the refectory, accompanied by Gregorian chant. The cuisine is vegetarian, seasonal and understated. It is a moment that is part of the experience of the hermitage and invites you to slow down, giving attention to the meal and to shared time. The harmonies of the chant help create an atmosphere of calm and recollection, and for this reason we ask guests to observe silence during dinner.
Yes. Eremito is not a monastery and does not require any particular practices.
Many guests choose to spend their time quietly, while others naturally share moments of the day with fellow guests.
Those who wish to spend their stay in complete silence may do so by wearing a small badge, available on request, which reads “I am in silence.”
Eremito is probably not for you if you want a convenient base for exploring Umbria, if you need your phone to work, if you want a large room, if you want to choose where and when to eat or somewhere to go in the evening, if you are looking for a course to enrol in, or if you are travelling with children under 16 or with a dog. Phones and digital devices are not used in the communal spaces of the hermitage.

Yes, and you can read anywhere, including the communal spaces. It is phones that stay out of them, with a dedicated area outdoors for calls. There is also a small library at the hermitage.
The rate covers the whole experience: your stay in a Celluzza, vegetarian full board (from dinner on the day of arrival to breakfast on the day of departure), water and wine with meals, herbal teas throughout the day, the silent dinner accompanied by Gregorian chant, morning yoga practice, guided meditations, the relaxation area with steam bath and jacuzzi, walks in the UNESCO Monte Peglia Biosphere Reserve and the jeep ride up from the parking area. Eremito has one all inclusive rate, and it is a rate for one person: from EUR 220 per night. A second person in the same Celluzza is EUR 150, so a room for two starts from EUR 370. The rate covers full vegetarian board, water and wine with meals, herbal teas, morning yoga, guided meditations, the relaxation area with steam bath and jacuzzi, and the jeep ride up from the car park. The minimum stay is two nights. Rates vary by season and Celluzza, and the exact price for your dates is the one shown when you check availability on the Bookings page.
No, and there cannot be: our rooms are priced for one person, from EUR 220 per night. Here it works the other way round, the second person is the supplement.

Yes. Eremito has a limited number of rooms and availability often fills up well in advance, especially at weekends and during peak periods.
We therefore recommend checking availability and booking your stay ahead of time.
The rooms at Eremito are called Celluzze.
They are elemental rooms inspired by the simplicity of the monastic tradition, designed to encourage rest and quiet.
Many are single, because Eremito is conceived above all for solo travellers. Some can accommodate two people and are equipped with the comforts needed for the stay.
Each Celluzza has its own bathroom and is a simple, intimate space dedicated to rest and silence.
Yes. The stay includes vegetarian full board, breakfast, lunch and dinner — from dinner on the day of arrival to breakfast on the day of departure, with water and wine at meals and herbal teas throughout the day. The cuisine is inspired by the monastic tradition.
Yes. If you have any intolerances or particular dietary requirements, we ask that you let us know before arrival so that we can arrange the service accordingly.
No: at Eremito there are no extras or supplements. The only items not included are the tourist tax (€1 per person per night, for the first two nights only) and optional transfers from the station or airports, available on request.
It depends on the option chosen when booking. The Non Refundable rate is paid in advance and cannot be refunded. The Flexible rate can be cancelled free of charge up to 7 days before arrival. Both include the same services.
Eremito welcomes guests aged 16 and over. The rhythm of the hermitage, the silence and the shared moments are designed for those who wish to pause and rediscover time for themselves, an experience that calls for a certain maturity. We will be happy to welcome younger guests when their moment comes.
Pets, much as we love them, cannot stay at the hermitage: by their nature they have a voice, and here silence is part of everyone’s experience.
For a few days the hermitage asks to be lived this way: in quiet, and for once in your own company alone.
Eremito is open all year except the winter closure, generally from mid January to the end of February. Spring and autumn offer mild weather for walking in the woods, summer evenings are cool at this altitude, and the weeks either side of the closure are the quietest of all, with the fireplace lit in the lounge. Weekends fill up well in advance.
You can arrive by car to the hermitage car park.
From there the hermitage is approximately 700 metres away: you may walk up or our staff can accompany you by jeep, free of charge.
Guests arriving by train can get off at Fabro Ficulle, about 30 minutes from the hermitage: the transfer to and from the station is a paid service, booked by writing to info@eremito.com with the train number.
The final stretch of road leading to the hermitage is an unpaved track of approximately 8 km through the woods.
It can normally be driven in a standard car, taken at a gentle pace.
Once you reach the hermitage car park, our staff can accompany you by jeep or you can reach the hermitage on foot with a short walk.
Not always. Some navigation apps and online maps may indicate a different motorway exit from the correct one.
The correct A1 motorway exit to follow is Fabro.
Before your arrival we always send guests a map with precise directions to follow from Fabro to the hermitage.
We recommend using these directions rather than your navigation app to reach us without difficulty.
Yes. The nearest railway station is Fabro-Ficulle, approximately 30 minutes from Eremito.
On request, a transfer service from the station to the hermitage can be arranged: write to us and we will send you the options and costs.
We ask guests to arrive by 19.00.
The hermitage is located within a nature reserve and after sunset the roads become very dark, making it more difficult to reach us. In addition, the silent dinner begins at 19.30, a moment shared by all guests.
Check-out is by 11.00 on the day of departure.
No special equipment is needed to take part in the Awakening of the Body.
Comfortable clothing is all you need.
We recommend comfortable, casual clothing suitable for walks in nature.
It may be useful to bring:
- walking shoes
- a swimsuit for the relaxation area
- a jacket or jumper for the evenings
- a book or something to read

Yes. The hermitage is surrounded by woods and gentle trails that can be explored on foot.
Many guests dedicate part of the day to walking in nature or simply spending time outdoors.
Yes. There is one steam bath and one jacuzzi for the whole hermitage, in the relaxation area, which opens at 16:00 and is included in the rate.
Yes, it is designed first of all for people travelling alone. The Celluzza rate is per person and there is no single supplement: the second guest is the supplement. Most Celluzze were created for one guest, and dinner is shared at the same table in silence, without separate tables. It is not a city hotel: you come here to be with yourself, in nature, about two hours from Rome. Read more on the Solo travel page.
