Solo Travel Retreat in Italy
Travelling alone, by design
Eremito is a retreat in Umbria, Italy, designed above all for those who travel
alone. Most of the 18 rooms are single by design: monastic Celluzze conceived for
one person, which means arriving alone is not the exception here, it is the point.
Rooms made and priced for one person, a shared table where arriving alone is the norm, no explaining yourself.
A place built around the solo traveller
The travel industry tends to treat those who are alone as an anomaly: spaces designed for two, the constant question of whether you are waiting for someone. Eremito was imagined the other way round. Its founder travelled the world alone before creating, in 2013, a contemporary hermitage where solitude is the guest of honour.
The Celluzze, inspired by monastic cells, hold exactly what one person needs: a bed, a desk, a window on the valley. In the evening, the silent dinner removes the awkwardness of eating alone: everyone shares the same table and the same silence, accompanied by Gregorian chant. Afterwards, by the fireplace, conversation happens naturally, if you want it.
There is no Wi-Fi and no signal inside the hermitage: a digital detox that gives solitude back its quality. Days flow between morning yoga, guided meditations, walks in the UNESCO Monte Peglia Biosphere Reserve, the relaxation area with Turkish bath and jacuzzi, or simply a book and the horizon.
Alone, but looked after
Arriving is simple even without a car: the nearest station is Fabro-Ficulle,
30 minutes away, with a transfer available on request, and from the car park the
staff brings you up by jeep. The all-inclusive rate means there is nothing to
decide or pay for once you arrive: meals, wine, activities and the relaxation area
are all part of the stay.
Many guests arrive alone and leave with the feeling of having rediscovered time
and space for themselves. Some return every year, alone again, on purpose.
The essentials
One all-inclusive rate: single Celluzza from EUR 220 per night. It includes full vegetarian board with water and wine, herbal teas, morning yoga, guided meditations, the relaxation area and the jeep ride from the car park. Minimum stay two nights. Guests aged 16 and over.
Where: Località Tarina 2, Parrano (Terni), Umbria. About 2 hours from Rome by car, A1 exit Fabro.
Eremito is Italy’s first B Corp certified ecoresort.
Questions we are often asked
Will I feel out of place on my own?
Quite the opposite. Most guests are travelling alone, and the rhythm of the hermitage, shared meals, optional activities, wide silences, is designed so that solitude never turns into isolation.
Do I have to socialise?
No. Silence is respected here. Those who wish to spend the whole stay in silence may wear the “I am in silence” badge, available on request, and everyone will understand.
Is it suitable for solo female travellers?
Yes. The hermitage is a small, cared for place with staff always present, a single shared table and no anonymous corridors. Many women choose Eremito precisely for the ease of being alone here.
Not for everyone. For those who wish to inhabit time, not fill it.
Rediscover your rhythm
Eremito was not created to offer escape or entertainment. It was created to offer a space of listening, presence and sobriety. A place that originates in a personal story, but finds its meaning only in the experience of those who pass through it.
