Living Eremito
Eremito is a contemporary hermitage dedicated to silence, simplicity and digital detox, nestled in the nature of the UNESCO Monte Peglia Biosphere Reserve.
In a world that keeps accelerating,
there is a place where time slows down
Silence
Silence is not the absence of sound. It is a space to return to listening.
At Eremito, silence accompanies the day naturally, in the refectory during dinner, in moments of quiet recollection, on walks through the woods.
An invitation to slow down and rediscover your own inner rhythm.
As the hours pass, silence becomes a presence, part of the very life of the hermitage.
Travelling Alone
Eremito is conceived above all for those who choose to travel alone.
A place where solitude is not isolation, but a space to rediscover oneself.
Many guests arrive alone. Many leave with the feeling of having found something essential.
For many, the solo journey becomes an opportunity to rediscover time and the ability to truly listen.
Digital Detox
At Eremito, the most important connection is the one with yourself. This is why, since we opened in 2013, we have envisioned the common spaces as places free from phones and digital devices.
Today, this choice is an essential part of what defines Eremito.
There is no Wi-Fi, no television and no mobile signal inside the hermitage.
Leaving your phone in your Celluzza becomes a simple gesture that opens space for reading, listening, nature, and authentic encounters. This distance from constant connection allows you to rediscover a simpler, more natural rhythm.
Reception takes calls and messages for guests.
Gregorian Chant
Throughout the day and evening, the hermitage is accompanied by the ancient harmonies of Gregorian chant.
An elemental and timeless music that creates an atmosphere of recollection and accompanies the dinner in silence.
An ancient sound that moves through the life of the hermitage.
The chants accompany the rhythm of the day without breaking the silence of the place.
Vegetarian cuisine
In the refectory the cuisine is vegetarian, seasonal and understated, with produce from the garden and local suppliers.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the rate, with water, wine at meals and herbal teas through the day.
Guests with intolerances or particular needs let us know before arrival.
Sustainability and the reserve
Eremito stands at the head of a valley with no other houses, in the UNESCO Monte Peglia Biosphere Reserve: three thousand hectares of woodland, the last eight kilometres on an unpaved road, and the nearest village is Cantone, a few houses and a small church 2.5 km along a trail.
Electricity is 100% renewable, the building is energy class A4, and Eremito has been B Corp certified since 2024.
Here nature is not a backdrop, it is the distance from everything else.
A Day at Eremito
Every day at Eremito follows a simple and natural rhythm.
The activities offered are always optional, accompanying the life of the hermitage while leaving space for silence and personal time.
Morning
The day begins with the Awakening of the Soul, a brief moment of shared readings.
This is followed by the Awakening of the Body, a gentle yoga practice open to all.
The refectory then welcomes guests for breakfast.
The morning continues slowly, with reading, walks along the forest trails, or simply time to rest in silence.
Afternoon
After lunch, the day continues with moments of quiet and personal time.
You may walk through the woods surrounding the hermitage, rest in the relaxation area, or join the brief meditation and reading sessions in the chapel.
Evening
As the light changes, the hermitage gathers.
Guests come together in the refectory for dinner in silence, accompanied by the harmonies of Gregorian chant.
After dinner, the day closes simply, gathered around the fireplace, in an atmosphere of stillness and quiet recollection.
In this simple rhythm, many guests discover something rare: time regains its space.
Eremito Is Not for Everyone
It is probably not for you if:
- you want a convenient base for exploring Umbria: the last 8 km are an unpaved road, and the nearest village on foot is Cantone, a few houses and a small church 2.5 km along a trail.
- you are looking for spa services or entertainment: the relaxation area is a steam bath and a jacuzzi, massages can be arranged on request, and there is no treatment menu and no organised activities.
- you need to be reachable on your own phone: there is no Wi-Fi anywhere and no mobile signal inside the hermitage, only a dedicated area outdoors. Reception takes calls and emails for guests and passes on messages.
- you want a large room: most Celluzze are 9 square metres.
- you are travelling with children: guests must be 16 or over.
- you are travelling with a dog: pets cannot stay at the hermitage. Assistance dogs are welcome.
- you want to choose where and when to eat, or to go out afterwards: dinner is at 19:30 every evening, at one shared table, in silence, and there are no restaurants or bars nearby to go to afterwards.
- you are looking for a structured retreat: yoga and guided meditation are held every day at fixed times, but there is no course to enrol in and nothing is compulsory.
- you expect to arrive late: the roads through the reserve are very dark after sunset, so check-in is by 19:00.
It is the right place for those who want to stop, sleep in a Celluzza, walk in the woods and sit at a shared table without having to say anything.

What you will find:

For many it is a pause.
For some it becomes a return.
This is why those who choose Eremito often come back.
